During Unit 3 we defined “empire” and discussed how different civilizations  fit the definition of empire.  Also using artifacts and written works, we practiced categorizing these pieces of information into Elements of Empire and used them as evidence of empire.  For this unit’s assessment, you will research a new empire and determine its legacy.  You will be assigned a group to research one of the following empires: Persia, Maurya, Kush, Macedonia.

Prompt: What is the most important legacy of your assigned empire?

 

Required Components:

  • Four (4) or more primary sources
  • Product that explains the legacy
  • Paragraph that compares your empire to Han/Rome
  • Paragraph that connects your empire to a class theme
  • Chicago footnote citations and Bibliography.

Research Phase:

  • Find and take notes from 1 or more common knowledge sources about your empire as a whole (e.g. Britannica or Gale research starter)

  • Find and take notes from 2 or more sources that address specific components of the empire that were mentioned in your first source(s)

  • Find and take notes from 4 or more primary sources (written or visual)

  • Write a thesis statement that addresses the most important legacy of your empire.

Product Creation:

  • Create a product that explains the most important legacy of the empire
    • Option 1: Video
    • Option 2: Written Argument
    • Option 3: Artifact Analysis
  • Write a paragraph that compares the Elements of Empire charts for your empire, the Han Empire, and the Roman Empire. The paragraph must include a primary source.
  • Write a paragraph that highlights a connection between your empire and one of the World History 1 class themes. The paragraph must include a primary source.
